German asparagus is the best, but it is out of season. I love Eierkuchen (egg panncakes), crapes, Kartoffelpuffer (potato pancakes) and no visit to Germany would ever be complete without Doener (Turkish gyros). I would recommend a day trip to Braunschweig if you have time. My favorite cty, and it is a half hour from Hanover.

Micha -- I'll definitely give white sausages a try. I read in my sausage making book about how some german sausages are made with milk rather than water or wine -- I wonder if that's what gives some sausages their white color?

Tiffany -- I have heard the terms, but have no idea what either of those are -- a great reason to search them out and try them!

Candace -- I'm glad you liked the biscuits! your photo of them is fantastic. As for the spiced cookies, they sound delicious -- there's a little bakery about 50 yards from my hotel -- I should check if them have them

I'm not up on my German cuisine, but my old German roomates used to have the most amazing spiced cookies and tasty little marzipans.

On another note, I finally made your biscuits (with a couple of changes) and they were soooo good. I did a post about them on my little corner of the web. Thanks for sharing and happy travels!

Have a great trip! I have never been to Germany, but my family is of German-heritage so we always make saurbraten and spaetzle for Christmas. I love both, and would definitely try it if I was traveling there.

Try Weißwurst, it's a mild sausage (like the one in your picture, actually). And of course, one couldn't skip the beer!
Viel Spaß! (Have fun!)
