I like your heels and frilly apron idea. The salad might even be tastier if you are wearing your 50s chic accessories.

I definitely have cravings like that every once and awhile. I find it quite odd. Usually I'm not much for American comfort classics and then all of a sudden I'll get a craving for meatloaf or some sort of casserole.

denise -- you should definitely give it a try! The salad is on the rich side with the 1000 island, bacon, and egg, but it makes a delicious and filling main course

Maybelle's Mom -- to keep with the 50's chic theme, next time I make it perhaps I should dress in heels and a frilly apron while preparing it! :)

erin -- imitation crab... yuck! I can see how you were scarred...

I have not had this for at least 23 years. My mother made it with imitation crab and it put in place a bias that would last until I saw this post. I think I'll have to give this dish another chance, your version at least!

WHen I lived abroad, I was the same way about American food. This looks like a delicious salad--very 50s chic.

Jen, this looks like a really wonderful combination of tastes and textures--salty, spicy, a little sweet and crunchy, smooth, juicy. Nice work!

Can you believe that I've never eaten a Shrimp Louis salad. Perhaps it is time for that to change.
