Seedling growing in drain
Taking Root in an Unexpected Place

 Cuddling Carrots
Two Roots Intertwined

I just wanted to share these two photos from my kitchen that I find quite charming:

1) After not having cooked for a couple of days, I noticed a seedling growing in the most unexpected place — out of the drain on my sink’s drainboard!  I think it’s a tomato seedling…

2) I picked up a bunch of carrots at the grocery store, and upon closer examination, found that two carrots were lovingly attached to each other :)  I could barely stand to eat them it was so cute and unexpected

I love those pictures. Thanks for sharing. It’s too funny about the tomato sprout. I also love unique looking produce like that. I think so many times it seems like grocery store produce favors the perfect so I always love things that are a little unique and maybe even a little ugly.

I responded to your comment on my blog, but wanted to also comment here as well since I know people don’t always go back to revisit the comment thread. You could absolutely use milk or cream, whatever you usually prefer in mashed potatoes and meets your dietary requirements. I happen to use evaporated milk a lot since I often don’t use enough dairy milk to justify buying fresh and because I love that it mimicks the body of creamw without the fat, but fresh milk or cream would just as easily do the trick.

That is a lovely picture of the carrots. I like it when nature makes us smile, its not all about the rain…
